Series B Announcement

Our $20M Series B

Hey there. Today I’m sharing some exciting news for Frame.io, but more importantly, for all 375,000 of you who use and depend on Frame.io for your mission-critical work.

Frame.io has just raised $20M in Series B funding. This brings our total funding raised to $32 Million. Wow, that’s a lot of money (but more on that later).

A little over 2 years ago, my co-founder John Traver and I set out on a mission to change the way video collaboration works. 15 years of post production experience guided our relentless focus on building a product that solved real problems.

Our north star has always been to build a product that you would absolutely love. We have been, and always will be, a product-driven company. To me, product-driven means that we make you happy first and make money second. We win by making you win.

I want to extend a massive THANK YOU to everyone out there who uses and supports Frame.io. You’ve fueled our organic growth and allowed us to build a thriving company that keeps dreaming bigger every day. Our mission has been upgraded from reimagining video collaboration to reimagining post production itself.

This new funding will be invested in a few key areas: Security, Product Features, A Developer Ecosystem, and a dash of Sales and Marketing for good measure.

Security Investment

One of our most significant investments will be focused on cloud and content security. In fact, over the past 2 years, security has become a core pillar of the Frame.io product offering. In addition to forming a new security team that reports directly to me, we’ll be rolling out forensic watermarking, Digital Rights Management, and a host of new security/compliance certifications including MPAA. Whether you are producing Hollywood feature films or web content, your intellectual property belongs to you, and it’s imperative that it stay that way.

Product Investment

The second area of investment will be continuing to iterate and develop our core products. Given we are a product-driven company, that should come as no surprise. We’ll be doubling the size of the product and engineering team, and I cannot wait to show you what we have cooking.

Developer Ecosystem Investment

As video creators, our workflows are increasingly dependent on a host of ever-growing apps. Producing video requires multiple creative tools, publishing tools, stock sites and services, asset management/storage systems, and many other specialty products. We believe Frame.io can be a central tool that connects all your tools together. To realize that vision, we have invested a year of engineering into an upcoming developer platform that will allow our customers and third-party software developers to build the world’s most connected video workflows with Frame.io.

Marketing Investment

To date, we haven’t spent much money on sales and marketing. We chose to win by being the best at solving your problem and letting you spread the word organically. With this new influx of capital, it’s an exciting time to invest in some creative marketing. Rather than spending hundreds of thousands on banner ads, we’re going to invest in fun marketing campaigns that benefit you. The first of which is called the Frame.io Dreamstation Giveaway. We’ll be giving away a $62,000 editing station, and believe me, it’s a dream.

Lastly, we’re hiring! Big time. Please check out our careers page. If you don’t see the perfect job for you but still feel like you have a lot to add to Frame.io‘s mission, reach out to jobs@frame.io.

I’m excited to go through this next phase of growth with all of you. To be continued.

Much love from New York City,

Emery Wells – CEO
