What’s New in Frame.io Version 4: February 2025 Releases

Hello there! I’m Jenna, the new product lead for Frame.io at Adobe. I couldn’t be more thrilled to join this team to build the next evolution of this incredible platform.

We’ve been blown away by how quickly creative teams worldwide have embraced Frame.io Version 4 as their collaboration and workflow management hub. Your trust drives everything we do. With V4’s foundation established in 2024, we’re now focused on making it even better. This month kicks off a series of releases that blend innovation with refinement. You’ll find:

  • Smart quality-of-life improvements that speed up project navigation
  • Streamlined layouts that cut complexity while preserving powerful functionality
  • Performance enhancements that keep you in your creative flow longer

We hear you loud and clear about what’s still missing—transcriptions, better text review tools, and more granular access controls to name a few. Look for updates on these (and more) starting in April.

As always, your feedback shapes Frame.io’s future, so keep it coming. Now on to the good stuff.

Version 4 Web App

Shares, security & smarter analytics

  • Share account branding—Account Admins can now create default templates that their team can use to save time and ensure that all shared content reflects your brand’s visual identity.
  • Disable Share downloads—Protect your content from unwanted downloads with a helpful new setting in Content Security → Share Settings.
  • Reel layout—Asset names are now show by default on new Shares.

Watermarks, thumbnails, downloads & more

  • Trash & Restore is live in Projects—Edit-level users and up can delete files, version stacks, and folders. Plus, easily restore files from your Recently Deleted folder if needed. There’s also a new countdown badge to let you know exactly how long an asset has left before it’s permanently deleted.
  • Static watermarking for V4 Enterprise accounts—Protect your creative IP by adding customizable watermarks across every video, image, and document.
  • Navigation improvements—Set Frame as Thumb and Download Still are easier to find in V4.
  • Smart onboarding for a strong start—New to V4? We’ve got your back with an onboarding experience built to get you up-and-running fast. First-time V4 users can onboard easily with tooltips that guide them through the platform—from creating your first Project to uploading an asset to sharing content like a pro.

Notification improvements

We get it—some of you love getting updates when your uploads are complete (because peace of mind is priceless), while others would rather not be bombarded with those same alerts. This month we’ve shipped improvements that give you greater control over the notifications you receive.

  • Mark All as Read & Filter—Stay on top of what matters and turn your notification sheet into an update feed and a to-do list with features that let you mark all notifications as read and filter by Read/Unread status.
  • Fine-tuned upload alerts—Customize notifications for your uploads, others’ uploads, or both—because no one needs unnecessary pings.
  • Quick access to notification settings—We’ve made it easier than ever to tweak your settings right from the notifications sheet to tailor the experience that works best for you.

Small but mighty fixes to keep you in flow

We shipped a handful of small but powerful updates to make your experience smoother. Here’s what’s new:

  • Workspace-level List View—For an intuitive view that reflects the folder systems you already know and love, you can now switch between Grid View and List View. What’s more? Your choice persists across sessions. Your view, your way, every time.
  • Recent Projects—Those with 10+ Projects have a new “Recent Projects” section at the top of their Workspace making it easier to find and manage your most top-of-mind Projects.
  • Asset navigation upgrade—Now, in addition to brackets, you can use arrow keys to breeze through videos, docs, stills, and more. And to make sure you’re always up-to-speed, we’ve included helpful toasts to guide you on the new frame-by-frame and page-by-page navigation experience.
  • All Assets—All Assets (aka the top-level folder in Projects) is now a drop/move target. Enjoy less digging, fewer clicks, and a lot more efficiency.
  • No more surprise logouts—V4 web users, we heard you—getting booted out every 8 hours was not ideal. Now, you’ll stay logged in longer and enjoy smoother page loads as an added bonus.
  • Intercom vs. Player battle—Intercom was sneakily stealing focus from the player, breaking playback shortcuts. Not anymore.
  • Duplicate PDFs now load properly – No more comparison viewer meltdowns when loading the same PDF twice.
  • Comment count fix—A migration script bug was messing with internal comment counts in V4. Now you can be sure your comments are accurately accounted for.
  • New icons in the Player cog menu—Because details matter and crisp well-designed icons are easier to understand.
