What’s New in Frame.io: April 2025 Releases

Every April, the Frame.io team heads to the NAB Show in Las Vegas, excited to unveil what we’ve been working on—and this year we brought a massive lineup.  Frame.io and Adobe were back in full force, and it was an incredible week of connecting in person, hearing your feedback, and showing off what’s new. For those of you who were there, we hope you had an amazing time, too.

Whether you joined us live in Vegas or are just catching up now, here’s a roundup of everything we launched in April, plus a sneak peek at what’s landed since the show.

Awards Highlights

We’re thrilled to share that our Camera to Cloud integration with Canon’s EOS C400 and EOS C80 won a Product of the Year award at NAB 2025.

These powerful cinema cameras now connect directly to Frame.io, making it easier than ever to get footage from set to creative collaborators in record time. It’s a major leap forward for fast-turnaround, cloud-connected workflows, and a great example of how Camera to Cloud continues to evolve across the industry.

Missed the demo? You can catch it again at CineGear Expo in Los Angeles on June 6–7, at the Canon Booth (#963).

We’re also excited to announce that Frame.io V4 took home two Webby Awards this year: one for “Web Services & Applications – Websites and Mobile Sites,” and another for “Creative Production – Apps & Software.” We’re honored by the recognition and energized by the continued positive response to the new Frame.io experience.

More Storage, Across All Plans

When we launched Frame.io Version 4, one of the biggest pieces of feedback we heard was around storage. Teams loved the new workflow tools, but limited space meant keeping files split across multiple platforms.

To help simplify things, we’ve expanded storage across all Pro, Team, and Enterprise plans. Storage now scales with your user count, so as your team grows, your capacity grows, too.

It’s already rolling out to eligible V4 paid plans, no need to do anything. Just more room to keep your projects in one place.

Frame.io Transcription

We’ve continued to expand our Transcription Beta, helping teams move faster from raw footage to review-ready edits.

Now you can bulk transcribe clips, including those inside Collections, and get timecoded text in a snap. We’ve also added improved UI feedback when no spoken words are detected, so you’re never left guessing.

It’s a faster, more accurate way to build transcripts into your workflow, whether you’re generating captions, pulling quotes, or making content searchable.

More Power in Your Pocket: An Updated iOS Experience

We’ve packed a ton of functionality into our latest Frame.io for iOS update, currently rolling out in stages on the App Store. It’s all about giving you more control, more flexibility, and a better on-the-go review experience.

Highlights include:

  • Text Markup: Add highlights and comments directly to documents.
  • Transcription Beta: Auto-caption your videos from mobile.
  • Floating Playback Controls: A cleaner iPad viewing experience.
  • iPad Multitasking: Drag and drop files, work side by side, and keep moving.
  • Handoff Support: Start on mobile and finish on desktop.

Whether you’re on set, in transit, or just checking in between meetings, this update makes Frame.io a more powerful creative tool in your pocket.

New Document Review Tools

We’ve taken a big step forward in making document reviews faster and more collaborative.

With Text Markup Tools, you can now:

  • Highlight and comment
  • Suggest edits by inserting or deleting words
  • Replace phrases inline
  • Search documents with CMD + F

It works across PDFs and supported Microsoft Office files, turning Frame.io into a full-fledged document review space.

Comments, Now Built Into Premiere Pro

Starting in Premiere Pro 25.2, the Frame.io Comments Panel is now natively built into the Review workspace, or from the Window menu.

That means faster feedback loops, fewer tab switches, and a more integrated editing experience. Upload a cut, get timestamped comments back in real time, and keep the flow going, all without leaving your timeline.

Order, Your Way: Custom Sort Returns

One of the most beloved features from Frame.io V3 is officially back.

Custom Sort Order has returned to both Projects and Shares, giving you full control over how assets are displayed. And even better: it’s now the default view for all new V4 Projects.

Now, when you open a Project, you’ll see the order your team set—no more toggling between upload date or alphabetic chaos. If you’ve got Edit permissions, you can jump right in and reorganize assets to fit your workflow.

This isn’t just a UI tweak. For teams juggling fast-moving reviews and layered feedback, being able to group and prioritize assets visually is a major quality-of-life boost.

Welcome to the Vault: Restricted Folders Have Arrived

Say hello to Restricted Folders, a new way to control access and keep your projects organized. You can now mark a folder as “Restricted,” which removes inherited permissions from the Project or Workspace and lets you define exactly who can view or interact with that folder.

This feature brings back the granular permission control teams relied on in V3, and improves it in V4. Instead of creating separate Projects to manage limited access, you can now set folder-level visibility within a single, streamlined structure.

For example, you might limit a vendor’s access to a single delivery folder, or isolate internal files that aren’t ready for external review. Restricted Folders give you the flexibility to build cleaner permission models without overcomplicating your workspace.

Folder Tree, Now Drag & Droppable

For anyone working deep in complex folder hierarchies, we just made your life easier.

You can now drag and drop folders directly within the Folder Tree. Just hover over a folder for a second and it’ll auto-expand so you can nest things exactly where you want.

It’s one of those small but mighty changes that makes a big difference when your projects are large, layered, and moving fast.

Fixes, Features & Fresh Drops

We’ve kept the momentum going with even more quality-of-life upgrades, some big, some subtle, all meaningful:

  • Static Watermarking is now available for Pro & Team plans
  • Improved screen reader support with updated aria-labels for better accessibility
  • Anchor comments now stay locked in place, even when zooming
  • Search results now persist when clicking around in the Viewer
  • Visual polish to mobile closed captions in fullscreen mode
  • Upgraded HLS URLs with enhanced logging for better Datadog diagnostics

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by the booth, shared feedback, or has been testing the latest features. We’re always listening, and we’ve got some really exciting updates lined up for May.
